Erna Furman-Popper (Vienna 1926 - Cleveland 2002) was a well known child-psychoanalyst, who studied with Anna Freud. She worked nearly fifty years at the Hanna Perkins Center for Child Development.
Erna Furman was honorary member of the American Psychoanalytical Association and president of the International Association of Child Psychoanalysis.
She wrote several books and nearly 200 articles.
In 1942, along with her mother, grandmother and aunts, she was sent to the camp at Terezin (Theresienstadt).
Erna never wanted to be defined by her holocaust experience and rarely spoke about it. During her years in the camp she pursued lessons from the Bauhaus-artist Friedl Dicker Brandeis, assisted her and made many drawings herself. Many years later, battling for serious illness, in 2001, together with her husband Robert Furman she finally decided to speak about her camp-experiences with Elena Makarova. She came out with her Terezin-drawings and approved publication of the conversations.
The CDROM in this book presents the discussion between Erna Furman and Elena Makarova, Atlanta 2002, about the Terezin-drawings that Erna is bringing to be part of
'Erna's Room' in the Friedl Dicker Brandeis exhibition.
